Actually, I would recommend a tank like the M4 Sherman or T-34 to new players as the KV-1 has a lot of weaknesses that good players can exploit.

Yes, it has great armor, a high alpha gun and is slow enough to give you time to think, but it also has awful gun depression which makes it totally obsolete in anything more than hilly terrain, it turns so.slowly that it could be circle-strafed by my TOG and has awful aiming time/accuracy/general soft stats that make it hard to play aggressively. Finally, it is as blind as a bat and has poor camo values.

This is why I would reccomend the M4 Sherman. It swaps the KV's frankly mediocre armor for much better mobility, more reliable guns and gun depression and although the low HP pool is a bit of a problem, you can avoid that by using proper cover and camoflague/view range to your advantage. It requires a more cautious style of play but surely that is what a newbie will be doing as he learns the game?

The T-34 is effectively an M4 Sherman that swaps a bit of gun depression for a better gun.selection, with the reliable 57mm Zis-4 being my favourite. Great tank, very reliable.
